Outdoor enthusiasts will feel right a home in Alpine and the Big Bend area. Our climate allows visitors to experience a wide variety of sports and recreation. Thousands of square miles offer public access to hiking, camping, rock hunting, horseback riding and simply enjoying the great outdoors. Motorcyclist have found the secret of Alpine and ride the wonderful magical hills or if Golf is more of the relaxing thing for you then come try our said to be "challenging" golf courses, the Theatre of the Big Bend will entertain you.
Historic Walking and Windshield Tour Take a leisurely stroll or drive around Alpine’s downtown and get a glimpse into our architectural history, dating from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. A copy of the walking tour guide/map is available at the Alpine Visitors Center.
Visit Kokernot Park and the “Wrigley-Style” Kokernot Field A pleasant walk through Kokernot Park with its many trees is a great place to relax, have a picnic lunch and let the children roam. For the baseball enthusiasts, Kokernot Field will take your breath away. Styled after the famous Wrigley Field, this baseball diamond was once home to the Alpine Cowboys, a semi-pro team of the mid 20th century. Alpine Country Club Golf Course Nestled next to Kokernot Park, this 9 hole course is very popular with both residents and visitors. Big Bend Cowboys Baseball Games begin on May 6h and run through August 19th. Games begin at 7 Pm Thursday through Saturday night. After church you can finish your lunch and still be at Kokernot for a 2 PM start. Specialty Shops Alpine has many unique shops and boutiques. Most of our specialty shops are located in the historic downtown area, with a few others scattered here and there. Choose from fine art, photography, antiques, gifts and souvenirs, books and maps, rocks and gems, arts and crafts and a whole lot more. Museum of the Big Bend
Permanent displays of the Big Bend’s natural and cultural history will enlighten and educate visitors to the area. Performing Arts and Live Entertainment
Alpine offers a variety of stage performances throughout the year by our two local theatre groups: Theatre of the Big Bend and the Big Bend Players. If you are in Alpine during the summer months, enjoy the outdoor theatre during our cool high desert evenings. Live music can be heard every weekend at the Railroad Blues, with a variety of genres represented. You’ll find honky-tonk, tejano, blues, rock and many others County Courthouse Hall of History Take a walk through he great hall in the Brewster County Courthouse, and step back through the years. Photographs of much earlier times in Alpine and the surrounding area are on display, offering a glimpse of yesteryear.
Sul Ross State University
With years of history and its uniquely beautiful setting, the campus of Sul Ross is a delightful place to wander around. Many of the buildings are now classified as historic. Rock Hunting Alpine and the surrounding area has an amazing geological history and provides a wonderful opporutnity for rock hounds to do some digging. Stop at any road side pull in and you will be sure to find a treasure for your collection or take the afternoon and head south of alpine about 10 miles to Woodward Ranch to search for the famous Red Plume Agate.
